Making a donation

• What form of payment can I use?

  We accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards.  All donations are made in Australian dollars.

• I am not based in Australia. Can I still make a donation?

  Yes!  Anyone around the world can donate via Online Giving, as long as they have a valid credit card.  As all donations are made in Australian dollars (AUD), it’s up to the donor to determine the amount they wish to donate in AUD. 
  
  When creating your account, simply leave the state name blank where the Australian states are found in the drop down box, type the name of your country over the default country "Australia", and type your state and post / zip code in the "other" section..

• Is making a donation through Online Giving secure?

  Yes, it’s very safe.  For any web page within our site that collects sensitive information, like your credit card details, we use a 128-bit SSL certificate to encrypt the data before it is transmitted over the internet from your computer to our server.  This Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate is provided by Thawte, the world’s leading provider of SSL certificates.

• I got an error message that my donation wasn't processed - what should I do?

  The main reasons we see that result in donations not processing are:
  - There is insufficient funds on the credit card entered to process the donation amount.  If this occurs, please use another credit card with sufficient funds or choose another donation amount
  - A card other than Visa or MasterCard is entered.  We will only accept these credit cards
  - The donor has signed up for "Verify by Visa", which means that additional security questions are asked by the bank before your donation can be processed.  Online Giving does not have access to this information, as it is passed directly to our bank for verification purposes.
   
  If none of these reasons apply and you are still unable to make your donation, please contact us at custservice@onlinegiving.com.au so we can help you resolve it as soon as possible.  
  
  

• Is my donation tax deductible?

  Not all donations made to charity partners through Online Giving are tax deductible.  When you chose your donation amount via the web site, it displays whether your charity has tax deductible status at the time of making your donation.  If you make a donation to a charity with tax deductible status, your tax receipt will be emailed to you once your donation has been processed.  Tax receipts are issued in the name of the person provided in their Online Giving account who makes the donation.

• I have not received a receipt for my donation. What should I do?

  As long as a correct email address was entered when making the donation, you should receive a receipt from us by email immediately.  If you believe your email address may have been entered incorrectly please email custservice@onlinegiving.com.au with the date the donation was made, your name, and reference number if you have it so we can resend you your receipt. 
  

• Who has access to my personal details that I enter via Online Giving?

  At Online Giving, we are committed to protecting your privacy.  It is Online Giving’s policy not to distribute any identifying information about you to any third party without your consent, unless stated in Online Giving’s Terms of Use or required by law.  We will inform your chosen charity that they can use your contact details to let you know about future campaigns or events if you checked the box requesting us to do this.  Similarly, Online Giving will send you occasional newsletters to keep you informed of how you can help make a difference in Australia if you checked the box requesting this option. 

• What is the process for ensuring my donation gets to the charity?

  Online Giving is committed to the timely transfer of donations, so the money gets to where it’s needed most as quickly as possible.  On a monthly basis we transfer all donations net of fees into the nominated charity’s bank account and email them a detailed report of their donation amounts for that month and current fundraising pages for their charity.  For more details on this process please click on the link  “How Online Giving works”.

• How much of my donation goes to the charity my friend is raising money for?

  In line with our mission, Online Giving is the lowest cost provider of personalised fundraising pages in Australia.  Online Giving deducts a small administration fee of 5% of online donations and passes on the bank's credit card processing fees, which are currently 0.9% of online donations plus 46 cents per transaction (these are subject to change as determined by the credit card companies).  By using Online Giving, you save the charity the administration tasks and costs associated with traditional fundraising, such as collecting cash and issuing receipts. This allows more money gets to where it's needed most – your end cause.
